Honey, the Kids Are Off to College Summer 2011 Issue
What do college and insurance have in common? Preparing your kids for the future! Insurance gives your kids (and you) one less worry so your children can hopefully enjoy one of the most important times in their lives – learning and pursuing their dreams.
We have several options we can take to properly protect your kids while away at a college, university or other school, available only for CIG Homeowners Insurance clients. Your options include:
Extending Coverage from Your
Homeowners Policy
With this option, we automatically extend coverage for your son's or daughter's personal belongings and personal liability from your CIG Homeowners policy. This option is available if:
- Your son or daughter is considered your dependent. That would mean you provide a majority of his or her support and more than likely still list him or her on your tax return as a dependent.
- You co-sign on any lease for your son's or daughter's apartment or rental.
- For Theft coverage to apply, the student must have been at his or her residence within 45 days of a loss for California clients. The limitation varies based on your state and policy type.
CIG Low-Cost Renters Policy
Often the best option is to purchase a CIG Low-Cost Renters Policy. With this option, you can customize the coverage for your son or daughter and don't face the same policy limitations that would apply if we extended coverage from your CIG policy.
- Available for students living in California, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.
- Property coverage starting at a $10,000 limit, with higher limits available.
- Cost starting as low as $100 per year for a $500 deductible. The actual cost will vary by location and coverage selected.
- Cost-saving deductible options to fit your budget.
- Special coverage for computers or other electronic or sports equipment.
