From the CIGville Police Department Identity Fraud Fall 2006 Issue
Did you know that before you finish reading this article someone's identity will be stolen? In fact, someone's identity is stolen approximately every 3.2 seconds.
Identity Fraud, commonly referred to as Identity Theft, occurs when someone uses your personal information without permission to commit fraud or other crimes. While we are all vulnerable to having our personal information stolen and misused, a strong dose of prevention backed up with Identity Fraud coverage goes a long way to mitigate the harmful effects of Identity Fraud for you and your family.
Many insurance carriers provide Identity Fraud coverage but leave you on your own to untangle the financial problems caused by Identity Fraud. Other companies specialize in Resolution Assistance but don't reimburse your expenses resulting from Identity Fraud.
CIG includes both Identity Fraud Expense Coverage and Fraud Resolution Assistance in all of our Homeowners Policies as of September 1, 2006. Our coverage protects you and your family 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at no additional cost.
CIG Identity Fraud Expense Coverage: We provide up to $15,000 ($0 deductible) for expenses you or a family member may incur if you become a victim. Covered expenses include up to $2,000 in lost wages ($500 per week), reasonable attorney fees, long-distance telephone charges, and costs for certified mail to name a few.
CIG Fraud Resolution Assistance: If you feel you've been the victim of Identity Fraud and have a CIG Homeowners Policy, simply call the CIG Fraud Hotline at 1-877-404-3372. We provide unlimited support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for up to two years after a covered incident. A fraud specialist assists with obtaining and evaluating credit reports, activating credit-monitoring tools to detect changes in your credit file, completing fraud affidavits if required by third-party creditors, completing supplemental policy reports, and placing fraud alerts on your credit file.
